Sample Letter:

Dear Representative,

Please help. As a citizen of San Antonio, I have questions and concerns about CPS's energy plan. Specifically, I am concerned about their ambition to invest in more nuclear reactors at the South Texas Project in Matagorda County. I have questions and I want to participate in a public hearing on the subject, but CPS is not holding any public meetings.

Building more nuclear power plants is too big a decision to make behind closed doors. Their current gesture to involve the public is a series of open houses which they announced in November. The first one was held in the southwest quadrant of the city on December 11. While there were information tables and staff available to talk to ratepayers, this was not a forum for public input.

I believe it is critical for CPS to engage the public in the decision-making process because investing in new nuclear reactors carries overwhelming environmental and economic risks. To leave citizens out of the process and keep them in the dark indicates that they are not making choices with their citizens interests in mind.

Therefore, as my state representative, I ask that you help open up the windows at CPS. Become involved on my behalf in this mighty decision. I would also like to invite you to attend one of the quadrant meetings.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely,
